What Kind of Poet Are You Anyway?
Friday afternoon, while watching/listening to a T.S. Eliot lecture for undergrads, one of my fellow grad students leaned over to me (while the lecturer was covering "Tradition and the Individual Talent") and whispered "Are you a poet with a hero complex?" I was taken aback, as I don't advertise my poetness around the halls, but then I replied "No, I think I'm the opposite." She then asked "Are you a self-deprecating poet?" I think I nodded my head. Then she said, "I'll bet you're a 'please love me' poet."
Which is as depressing as it is probably true.
