AR on Food

Thanks to the generosity of my good friend/drinking buddy Hannah and her partner Aaron, I have in my possession the wondrous Food by Waverly Root. For those of you unfamiliar, it's an encycopedic tome of short essays on, what else, food. They're witty and erudite, with a wide range of literary and historical references, and just a delight to read. Which gave me an idea. Although I can't promise I'll be delightful, I'd like to start posting a series of short food essays on the blog here. I'd like also to enlist your help. Interested parties can send me a food (it can be a single food, say a vegetable like Asparagus or a more complicated dish) they'd like to see me write on.

Rules:

* Send one food at a time. I want to be alphabetical about this, so the first A I receive, I'll write on, the first B I receive, I'll write on, and so forth in that fashion. If I manage to cover the whole alphabet, I'll start over.

* I will not allow myself to consult outside sources. The "knowledge" conveyed in these essays will be from memory.

* I will spend no longer than 20 minutes on each essay. Sometimes, I imagine, it will take much less time than that.

Start sending foods!!!
