Portland, Friday night. Going-away-to-Hawaii party for my friends Tom and Khara. A lot of beer, shots, and "jungle juice" (known to our northern friends as "spody"--the dumbest thing I've ever heard). Pre-party we had some crappy, cheap-but-perversely-good Thai food. I sample my first-ever bubble tea. It was good. At the party I saw Ryan A., whom I hadn't seen for years. He informed me that poetry was too complicated for him. Later he antagonized my girlfriend for reasons not entirely clear to me (I was busy having shots with Tom after we encountered each other in the men's room). Speaking of my girlfriend, a lot of single men, all Kathy's friends, kept asking Kathy if she was available, DESPITE THE FACT that she came with me, was affectionate with me, etc. More drinking. Later, Angelene's dog. Photos, one of me and Tom engaged in a passionate liplock. Sleeping on Julia's floor. Awaking surprisingly fresh and chipper fairly early the next morning. Chicken fried steak at Gramma's. Totally hilarious conversations involving Kate Bush with Julia at breakfast. Well, totally hilarious to Julia and me. Probably annoying or confusing to others. Mike D. made a hole in the table using the woodworking tools provided by the management. Jordan's little girl cried a lot. Nice conversation with Julie Grant. Julia Covert was very concerned with my Pepsi-drinking speed, which is, apparently, very slow. Saturday afternoon, Julia and I watched 8 episodes of _Undeclared_, a Nickel Creek video (which was stupid), and a Pixies video. Then we ordered Rovente's pizza. Then it was off to coffee with Laura and her friend Erin. Laura ate a muffin that I swore was made of sand. Then back to Eugene. But not before sellin $200 worth of books to Powell's. Good weekend.
