My pick for best song of the rock era is The Clash, "I'm So Bored with
the USA" from their self-titled 1977 album. I nominate it because I
still remember the rush of energy this song gave me when I first heard
it as an 8th grader in the early 80s. The song gave me the words &
sound to express how I felt about suburban Florida. I feel like the
song cuts through a lot of the bullshit surrounding rock & roll and
makes an eloquent political statement about US imperialism. I also
think that song captures some of chaotic energy rock & roll
re-invented.
