This much I know. My paternal grandmother caught the death from cancer when I was eighteen years old. Her maiden name was Trevona Davis. Everyone, including us kids, called her "Davie."

I think that, when she was a young woman, Gramma Davie had red hair. I only ever saw her with grey hair. She was petite and old-looking but sprightly. Everything she ever cooked tasted a little bit like cinnamon.

When she was 20 years old, in 1929, she was famished and someone gave her a tomato sandwich. Up until that point she hated tomatoes. After that, she loved them.
