You know you've been a shitty friend when the invites stop coming. And yes, it's more complicated than that. And yes, you should be explaining. But explaining takes so long and really doesn't change the fact of your absence, your tardiness, your flakiness.

We could make resolutions here. We could give thanks for what we still have left. We could sing praise to the new--y'all know who you are. We could forgive ourselves for shutting out those who no longer love us the way we want to be loved. We could be new too.
