Obama Defeat Sonnet

Our hope in a shiny orange can (union-made)
I “found my voice” on helium, on ether, on
C02, my love. You were panache-ified like
A magazine cover, my favorite senator my
Long grey eve of felt-tip longing—make a wish
On shiny keys. Plunk. Our hope in a thistle.

Six-pack, attack, unwrap this Egg McMuffin,
Take a cue from a pretty, stern past paramour,
Buy Belz’s daughter’s defense of the puffin
Unwrap your little black dog all sick on the floor

It’s time now. It’s time now. (Hurry up!)
Things pulled from a dumpster: metal objects.
This is still about gravity. Sure, you leave, sure
You cheat, sure I still want a piece of yellow change.
