Croce has a Wuthering Heights Song too?
This is just a guess and it has nothing to do with 19th Century British novels but I think Spike is a Rubberband Girl and she wears red shoes.
Seriously folks. Both Kate Bush and Jim Croce write songs about “real” people with “real” problems. Much like 19th Century British Novels. The people in their songs and in those novels may not be in situations like you but they are real enough that the reader or listener can identify with the character. That is my guess in 53 words.

What's the answer then? I've only ever listened to Kate Bush at your house and I have never read a 19th century British novel.
